Ebola: South African woman arrested at Lagos Airport [See Photos]

A female South African national is being held by Nigerian health authorities after showing potential symptoms of the Ebola virus disease.

The South African woman, whose identity was not revealed had reportedly been working in Guinea and Sierra Leone.

She is being treated as a suspected case and has been taken to Lagos’ Ebola treatment centre for tests to ascertain whether she has the virus.

The traveller, who lives in Cape Town, filled out a health questionnaire on her arrival at Lagos on Thursday, 11 September, in which she acknowledged suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting, which are possible symptoms of the Ebola haemorrhagic virus.

Dr. Morenike Alex-Okoh, director of Port Health Services at Lagos airport, said, “This person has been in Guinea and Sierra Leone since April, and she has symptoms.”

The woman had flown in from Morocco to Lagos, from where she was supposed to board a flight to South Africa.

Ebola was first imported into Nigeria in July by Liberian/American, Patrick Sawyer, who escaped quarantine, to travel down to Nigeria for an ECOWAS event in Calabar.
